If there is any way, dear Lord
In which my heart may send her word
Of my continued love,
And of my joy in her relief
From pain—a joy not even grief
And loneliness may rise above,
Reveal it to me ... for I long
To keep intact the tie so strong
Between us, from my birth,
That when we meet (as meet we must)
There shall be naught but perfect trust,
Such as we always knew on earth!
