AGE SPEAKS TO YOUTH, by JANIE SMITH RHYNE First Line: The windows of my soul are shadowed so Last Line: My soul fares forth on its immortal quest. Subject(s): Old Age; Youth | ||||||||
The windows of my soul are shadowed so That you, a passerby, do not discern How steadily the flames of purpose burn; What quiet glow of joy is mine to know That, when the latch is lifted, I shall go To find the time, the strength, the will to learn Infinite mysteries, the skill to turn To rich fruition dreams that could not grow To beauty here. Now, confident, I take My crumpled hopes and freshen them to make A banner that I shall be proud to fling To Heaven's breezes when the call shall ring; When with triumphant faith and holy zest My soul fares forth on its immortal quest. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BETWEEN THE WARS by ROBERT HASS THE GOLDEN SHOVEL by TERRANCE HAYES ALONG WITH YOUTH by ERNEST HEMINGWAY THE BLACK RIVIERA by MARK JARMAN BECAUSE MY HEART IS YOUNG by JANIE SMITH RHYNE |
