PRAIRIE VESPER, by MABEL KINGSLEY RICHARDSON First Line: A doubting skeptic walked with me Last Line: Is creed enough for me. Subject(s): Paintings And Painters; Prairies; Plains | ||||||||
A doubting skeptic walked with me Upon a prairie hill; As twilight fell he talked with me, I half believed him till The burning sunset lit the west With blazing glory spilled From north to south, up to the crest The skeptic's tongue was stilled. O Power that floods with painted light The prairie galleries, And sets between the day and night Such canvases as these, I'll hear no cant; nor shall I care How many creeds there be; To know One hung the sunset there Is creed enough for me. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...LEFT-HANDED POEM by JAMES GALVIN NO COMPLAINTS; FOR ROBERT GRENIER by ANSELM HOLLO POINT OF ROCKS, TEXAS by NAOMI SHIHAB NYE PRAIRIE HOUSES by BARBARA GUEST AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL by KATHARINE LEE BATES THE PRAIRIES by WILLIAM CULLEN BRYANT TO MAKE A PRAIRIE by EMILY DICKINSON THE PRAIRIE-GRASS DIVIDING by WALT WHITMAN SYMPHONY OF THE SOIL by EVA K.
