THE IMMORTAL TREE, by GLADYS VONDY ROBERTSON First Line: It stands alone on barren plane Last Line: Distance, time, eternity. Subject(s): Trees | ||||||||
It stands alone on barren plane, And through its branches a wild refrain Is sung by bitter, wintry blast That howls and scowls in going past. But still the leafless tree, With reticence and majesty, Defies the winds that pass it by, And stalwart towers toward the sky. When others bowed in depths of grief, This one stood out in bold relief. And now, although it stands alone, It has a kinship of its own With God and all that is to be -- Distance, time, eternity. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE PROBLEM OF DESCRIBING TREES by ROBERT HASS THE GREEN CHRIST by ANDREW HUDGINS MIDNIGHT EDEN by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN REFLECTION OF THE WOOD by LEONIE ADAMS THE LIFE OF TREES by DORIANNE LAUX |
