WELCOME, HUSBANDS, by MARCELLA ROBINSON First Line: We extend to you a welcome hearty Last Line: Bestow. Subject(s): Clothing & Dress; Marriage; Weddings; Husbands; Wives | ||||||||
We extend to you a welcome hearty To this our anniversary party. We hope you'll enjoy everything that we do, For it's all with the thought of pleasing you. We'll be just as informal as we know how, And, of course, won't expect you to act like a high-brow. There is a story going round, That on our husband's garments not one button can be found. We thought they were there, but I guess they wasn't. So what could we do but hand you a pin with a smile and a kiss? And you know quite well, that button you didn't even miss. So don't you worry, for we're not caring How many pins instead of buttons you are wearing. For we're busy as busy can be, We study early and we study late, Just to be able to keep up at your gait. And yet we appreciate, far more than you know, all the nice things on us you bestow. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A BLESSING FOR A WEDDING by JANE HIRSHFIELD A SUITE FOR MARRIAGE by DAVID IGNATOW ADVICE TO HER SON ON MARRIAGE by MARY BARBER THE RABBI'S SON-IN-LAW by SABINE BARING-GOULD KISSING AGAIN by DORIANNE LAUX A TIME PAST by DENISE LEVERTOV THE GREAT CAROUSAL by LOUIS UNTERMEYER THIRD BOOK OF AIRS: SONG 25 by THOMAS CAMPION A BALLAD OF SARSFIELD; OR, THE BURSTING OF THE GUNS by AUBREY THOMAS DE VERE |
