THE CLOSED ROOM, by
First Line: Here, time that was dim years away
Last Line: Nor closed the rusty door.
Subject(s): Houses, Deserted

Here, time that was dim years away,
Upon a mouldy loom,
Rewove a story lost in dreams
Left sleeping in the room.

Remembering, the old walls leaned
To hear a lullaby;
But as to this, there is no one
Who could so testify.

The toys turned from their dusty past,
Marched down a thoroughfare
Of days almost forgotten now,
Worn faded and threadbare.

No sound, yet in that silence
Where little ghosts had slept,
A childish laughter sang again;
A lonely woman wept.

I vow no voice has spoken there,
No step had crossed the floor,
No hand had opened it that day
Nor closed the rusty door.
