TO YOU I TURN, by

To you I turn in time of stress
And sue, dear love, for that caress
Whose subtle art doth vanquish care
And change the gloom of cold despair
To fragrant bloom and sunniness.

If fortune brings to me success
I cannot wholly acquiesce
Until, with heart as light as air,
To you I turn.

Thus, it the Fates despise or bless,
One prize I know that I possess
Which makes all seasons debonair,
For which all else I would forswear;
And so, to-day, O heart's Princess,
To you I turn!
