GOOD NIGHT, by LAUREAME M. ROYER First Line: Good night, mother Last Line: "good night, mother." Subject(s): Death - Mothers; Dead, The | ||||||||
Good night, mother. I gently close those eyes which once themselves Of their own will were opened and were closed, Which laughed with me and laughed when I was sad. I kiss them now with lips that trembling say -- "Good night, mother." Good night, mother, Good night. And when tomorrow's dawning breaks And my own eyes shall open where you are, I'll see again the laughter in your eyes; For you will kiss mine into life again, And I'll be glad for I need never say -- "Good night, mother." | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A FRIEND KILLED IN THE WAR by ANTHONY HECHT FOR JAMES MERRILL: AN ADIEU by ANTHONY HECHT TARANTULA: OR THE DANCE OF DEATH by ANTHONY HECHT CHAMPS D?ÇÖHONNEUR by ERNEST HEMINGWAY NOTE TO REALITY by TONY HOAGLAND DOMEDAY BOOK: JOHN CAMPBELL AND CARL EATON by EDGAR LEE MASTERS BUCOLIC COMEDY: KING COPHETUA AND THE BEGGAR MAID by EDITH SITWELL |
