Sad that I should lose my crown When I have scarce been queen; Sad that leaves should turn to brown When they have scarce been green. I cannot find a new love For thinking of an olden one; I cannot live a silver hour For having known a golden one. You are the stars I dimly see at night, You are the breeze that softly stirs in flight; You are the essence of a paling dawn at sea, You are the little breath of that diviner me.
