PEACE, by R. G. RUSTE First Line: How will it be when peace shall come Last Line: On the blissful day when the boys come home. Subject(s): Peace; Reunions; Soldiers; War | |||
How will it be when peace shall come, When the breathless waiting and feverish haste Shall be over and past? Oh, that will be like a Sabbath morn When the tired laborer wakes and feels The keen delight of a rest that's won Through faithful effort and duty done. How will it be when the boys come home, When, duty accomplished and victory won, The khaki-clad hosts come marching home? O, that will be greater than earthly joys: It will be like the resurrection morn; It will be like the night when Christ was born, And the boundless wealth of laughter and song Will be echoed back by the angel throng, For the joy will cleave through the heavenly dome On the blissful day when the boys come home. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...I AM YOUR WAITER TONIGHT AND MY NAME IS DIMITRI by ROBERT HASS MITRAILLIATRICE by ERNEST HEMINGWAY RIPARTO D'ASSALTO by ERNEST HEMINGWAY WAR VOYEURS by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA THE DREAM OF WAKING by RANDALL JARRELL THE SURVIVOR AMONG GRAVES by RANDALL JARRELL |
