Where wonted, luscious sweets of scent And swirl of rain-bow colors blent Gay witchery in genial rioting, Proud asters ride their prancing stems Like gallant knights, whose requiems Defy the sun's late-summer setting; Undaunted, facing circumstance and chill With smile's bright guerdon of good-will, To fend each stroke of autumn's scimitar. Love's riches, burgeoning in slender care And lavish beauty when that bloom is rare Are golden treasure-trove from Malabar. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE INVENTION OF LOVE by MATTHEA HARVEY TWO VIEWS OF BUSON by ROBERT HASS A LOVE FOR FOUR VOICES: HOMAGE TO FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN by ANTHONY HECHT AN OFFERING FOR PATRICIA by ANTHONY HECHT LATE AFTERNOON: THE ONSLAUGHT OF LOVE by ANTHONY HECHT A SWEETENING ALL AROUND ME AS IT FALLS by JANE HIRSHFIELD A BLACK HILLS IDYL by BEULAH WINDLE SCALLIN |
