NIGHT'S FAIRYLAND, by ELMA SCHEEL First Line: When day has wrapped her golden robe Last Line: "day breathes her ""thank you"" prayer." Subject(s): Day; Fairies; Night; Elves; Bedtime | ||||||||
When Day has wrapped her golden robe In evening scents and hush, She dons her magic wings and soars Away from Night's dark rush. Then, all the elves of fairyland Awake to work and care; They smooth Day's robe with tender hands, Pluck flowers for her hair. They string fair jewels for her throat, Of fragrant dew-drop pearls; They kiss the roses wide awake, While baby-moon unfurls. In breathless haste they set to right, Each wilted leaf and blade; Pin blossoms on each tiny plant, In every nook and glade. And when the Day at dawn appears, They deck her like a queen; Escort her through a rose-bud east, Soft-draped in silver sheen. And then they hasten to their homes, Away to Night's deep lair; While through the notes of heaven's lark, Day breathes her "Thank you" prayer. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE BREATH OF NIGHT by RANDALL JARRELL HOODED NIGHT by ROBINSON JEFFERS NIGHT WITHOUT SLEEP by ROBINSON JEFFERS WORKING OUTSIDE AT NIGHT by DENIS JOHNSON POEM TO TAKE BACK THE NIGHT by JUNE JORDAN COOL DARK ODE by DONALD JUSTICE POEM TO BE READ AT 3 A.M by DONALD JUSTICE ROUND ABOUT MIDNIGHT by BOB KAUFMAN |
