DUST OF TIME, by VIRGINIA SCOTT First Line: His picture stands upon the shelf Last Line: (but the gathered dust is all I note.) Alternate Author Name(s): O'neill, Virginia Scott Subject(s): Dust | ||||||||
His picture stands upon the shelf. Yes, once I placed it there myself. I knew the trend of every line: The lips I never could resign -- The brows that ruled his ardent eyes -- The hands provocatively wise -- The stubborn chin and swarthy cheeks -- Oh, yes, I loved him many weeks! And later when it caught my eye, I briefly paused, prepared to cry At love that could be so unfair -- And found I had no tears to spare! But now the picture -- if I look -- Is alien as an unread book. I see the eyes, the cheeks, the throat, His name, impassioned lines he wrote -- (But the gathered dust is all I note.) | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A PECK OF GOLD by ROBERT FROST DUST IN THE EYES by ROBERT FROST IN THE DUST by ALICIA SUSKIN OSTRIKER AN OLD BURYING GROUND by ELFRIDA DE RENNE BARROW BALLADE OF A DREAM ADDICT by VIRGINIA SCOTT |
