COSMIC MICROBE, by BERNARD SEEMAN First Line: Today / rears like a / powerful blue-gray Last Line: Even by yourself. Subject(s): Animals; Horses; Past | ||||||||
Today rears like a powerful, blue-gray stallion and plunges headlong toward tomorrow. You gasp and hold your breath and twist your tiny hands into his mane. He rears again and plunges -- Fearfully you shut your eyes and turn within yourself. Daring not to stare into the sun, you cherish feeble, introspective sparks; tiny, self-consuming sparks that leave no ash. And you, too, when you lose your hectic grip upon his mane and are unhorsed, will vanish, traceless, in the limbo of dead yesterday; forgotten, even by yourself. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...FERGUS FALLING by GALWAY KINNELL A TIME PAST by DENISE LEVERTOV LAST THINGS by WILLIAM MEREDITH CHRISTMAS TREE by JOHN FREDERICK NIMS THIS MORNING, GOD by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR |
