THE FOUNTAIN IN THE RAIN, by KATHARINE R. SIEGERT First Line: When the storm clouds loose their torrents Last Line: Like the fountain in the rain. Subject(s): Fountains; Rain | ||||||||
When the storm clouds loose their torrents, Whipping garden, hill, and plain, There is courage, staunch and loyal In the fountain in the rain. Shorn of all its rainbow colors, All its lacy, opal spray, Beaten back in heavy splashes, Vanquished quite its elfin play, Straight it leaps to meet the downpour Like a silver dart of light, Bounding skyward through the deluge, Springing -- thrusting with its might. May I meet life's stormy weather -- Sure the sun will shine again -- With a bounding spirit ever Like the fountain in the rain. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DISTANT RAINFALL by ROBINSON JEFFERS CHAMBER MUSIC: 32 by JAMES JOYCE HEAVY SUMMER RAIN by JANE KENYON CROWD CORRALLING by MARGARET AVISON THE RAIN-POOL by KARLE WILSON BAKER ON THE GREAT ATLANTIC RAINWAY by KENNETH KOCH THE SLAVE TRADE: VIEW FROM THE MIDDLE PASSAGE by CLARENCE MAJOR |
