THE SLEEPER, by WINN SKELLEY First Line: I sat in the shelter of a rock Last Line: And I moved silently lest my presence should awaken it too soon. Subject(s): Deserts; Food & Eating | ||||||||
I sat in the shelter of a rock And listened to the soft breathing of the desert. It lay asleep in the warm sunshine. No shadow moved, no finger stirred; But through its being flowed the intensity of future strength, The essence of orchards and proud cities and green fields. And I moved silently lest my presence should awaken it too soon. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WAITRESSING IN THE ROOM WITH A THOUSAND MOONS by MATTHEA HARVEY CANDIED YAMS' by TERRANCE HAYES DINNER OF HERBS by LOUISE MOREY BOWMAN THE BANQUET SONG by KENNETH KOCH SPLITTING AN ORDER by TED KOOSER |
