FALLEN LEAVES, by EFFIE WALLER SMITH Poet's Biography First Line: Beneath the frost-stripped forest boughs, the Last Line: We need not grieve to lie forgot, like sere leaves 'neath the tree! Subject(s): Autumn; Forests; Leaves; Life; Seasons; Trees; Fall; Woods | ||||||||
Beneath the frost-stripped forest boughs, the drifted leaves are spread, Vanished all summer's green delight, all autumn's glory fled. Yet, gathering strength from that dead host, the tree in some far spring Shall toward the skies a denser growth, a darker foliage fling. Ah, if some power from us, long dead, should strengthen life to be, We need not grieve to lie forgot, like sere leaves 'neath the tree! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE PRINCESS WAKES IN THE WOOD by RANDALL JARRELL CHAMBER MUSIC: 20 by JAMES JOYCE ADVICE TO A FOREST by MAXWELL BODENHEIM A SOUTH CAROLINA FOREST by AMY LOWELL JOY IN THE WOODS by CLAUDE MCKAY IN BLACKWATER WOODS by MARY OLIVER THE PLACE I WANT TO GET BACK TO by MARY OLIVER A GOOD-BYE by EFFIE WALLER SMITH |
