Nature's magnificent carpet spread But not a creature cares to tread Sun is master of the time, Not an insect climbs the vine. Statue-like the cattle lay, Unprotected from his ray. Sand-heaped hills ants have made, Now serve as a barricade. Birds are nestled in the shade, Along the brook we used to wade. Sun-scorched tops of yellow pine Are stilled now down in Carolin'. Flowers fold and droop their head, Babes asleep across the bed. Heavens majesticlife at ease; Mindful of the eve's release. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...INTERRUPTED MEDITATION by ROBERT HASS TWO VIEWS OF BUSON by ROBERT HASS THE FATALIST: HOME by LYN HEJINIAN WRITING IS AN AID TO MEMORY: 17 by LYN HEJINIAN LET US GATHER IN A FLOURISHING WAY by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA IN MICHAEL ROBINS?ÇÖS CLASS MINUS ONE by HICOK.
