TO THE PEACH BLOSSOM, by JULIAN FRANCIS SMITH First Line: A single blossom, brightly moist with dew Last Line: Be glad for wealth with dual power to bless! Subject(s): Fruit; Peaches | ||||||||
A single blossom, brightly moist with dew, Reveals in perfect symmetry and grace Of structure, form and lightly varied hue Such beauty as no human art can trace. Broad acres, blossom-covered, lift the face Of earth toward heaven, feasting every eye On glory not surpassed in time or space By splendors seen in earth or sea or sky. But harbingers of more than beauty lie Behind this marvel, transient though sublime; The petaled gems must fade away and die That luscious fruit may follow them in time. Rejoice, fair land in bright peach blossom dress!
