TO MOTHER, by
First Line: Mother!
Last Line: Mother's there.
Alternate Author Name(s): Gumble, Henry T., Mrs.
Subject(s): Mothers

Mother!
The spirit of her, where?
Where petunias red and white
Are the honied chalice bright
For the ruby-throats' delight,
Mother's there.

Mother!
The spirit of her, where?
In forgiveness for all wrong,
In the spring's first robin's song,
In a love that suffers long,
Mother's there.

Mother!
The spirit of her, where?
In the beauty she has wrought,
In the percepts she has taught,
In a life of selfless thought,
Mother's there.

Mother!
The spirit of her, where?
In a faith that sees no tomb,
In a lily's faint perfume,
When it bursts in Easter bloom,
Mother's there.
