GAJO FATHER, by AMEY SMYTH First Line: Because he chose to live within Last Line: Or say what I shall need? | |||
Because he chose to live within The walls of dear familiar things, Must I forget the hurricane, The ecstasy of soaring wings? Because he never heard its call, Must I forswear the hunter's horn, And stop my ears and blind my eyes To all he has not borne? Perchance he dreamed the devious ways Which I pursue so ardently, But choosing home, his wings were bound, And he bequeathed his dreams to me! I am his gypsy-hearted child, Mixed somehow with a foreign breed; How can he know the moods I feel, Or say what I shall need? | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PRAYER TO THE SPIRIT OF AUTUMN by AMEY SMYTH GHOSTS OF A LUNATIC ASYLUM by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET THE CLOUDS: THE CLOUD CHORUS by ARISTOPHANES REVELATION by EDMUND WILLIAM GOSSE PSALM 23 by HENRY WILLIAMS BAKER TO SIGURD by KATHARINE LEE BATES DAUGHTER O' MINE by DAISY DEAN BUTLER THE NEW VICAR OF BRAY by GEORGE GORDON BYRON |
