MEMORIES OF CAPRI (PUNTA TRAGARA), by LOUISE KIDDER SPARROW First Line: A far white line where sea and heavens meet Last Line: The dreamland isle that lies beyond the sea! Subject(s): Capri, Italy; Islands | ||||||||
A far white line where sea and heavens meet, Nor heaven, nor earth, nor sea, but all a dream: The lapping waves that skirt the terraced green Beat with a rhythmic pulse the enchanted shore, The lazy sun's intoxicating beam Bathes all the rippling, infinite sapphire sea, While wrapt in ecstasy that knows no tongue The senses grow a part of sky and sea! O grassy woodland slopes of fair Capri! O dark-eyed maidens with your breeze-tossed curls! O limpid air and wondrous wave-kissed shore! Though many a mile lies now 'twixt you and me, Once I was one with you, and in my heart I treasure all your charms and live again With sorrow hushed and eyes that weep no more, There where the heavens smile on fair Capri, The dreamland isle that lies beyond the sea! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DECEPTION PASS; FOR JUDY AND MARK KAWASAKI by KAREN SWENSON ON THIS ISLAND by WYSTAN HUGH AUDEN GLADYS AND HER ISLAND; AN IMPERFECT TALE WITH DOUBTFUL MORAL by JEAN INGELOW RAGGED ISLAND by EDNA ST.
