DESTINY, by MARIA LUISA SPAZIANI Poet's Biography First Line: It was then that destiny decided to take me by the hand Subject(s): Fate; Destiny | ||||||||
It was then that destiny decided to take me by the hand, from this moment on, destiny said, your empty existence will melt into me, will take on a form never seen; from this moment on, you will sense the infinity of the skies. Deciphering puzzles has been your life, here, now, is the key, one sun alone illuminates you, look at the color the flowers have turned since I said simply to your eyes, open wide -- Death really knocks the wind out of you but it is given you to make out the other side of the coin -- they told you when you were a little girl that God is in all things and it was pure apology, a synonym for poetry. You've been locked in a castle of fogs, your mind at the blind-bat stage -- now walk, arise, I say to you. Before you, I said it to Eurydice, to Lazarus, to every bewitched springtime.
