URGE, by GEORGE B. STAFF First Line: Some it drives to the arctic Last Line: And die with the thing in their hearts! | |||
Some it drives to the arctic To mush down the frozen trail, Where weird lights play over tundras gray And even the strongest fail. Some it sends to the tropics To battle the jungle dim; Where beasts of prey and fevers slay And death is a specter grim. But some are chained to stools and desks, Playing dull, humdrum parts. They slave and sweat and fume and fret, And die with the thing in their hearts! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...IMAGINARY ANCESTORS: THE GIRAFFE WOMAN OF BURMA by MADELINE DEFREES CORTEGE by EDWIN ARLINGTON ROBINSON WERENA MY HEART'S LICHT I WAD DEE by GRISELL BAILLIE THE CAUTIOUS HOUSEHOLDER by ANAXILAS GOODFRYDAY (TO A BASE AND TWO TREBLES) by JOSEPH BEAUMONT VILLANELLE by JOACHIM DU BELLAY |
