SEQUATCHIE VALLEY, by CLAUDIA WATSON STEWART First Line: Sprawled beneath the blue sky's cover Last Line: For troubled heart and harassed mind! Subject(s): Sequatchie Valley, Tennessee | ||||||||
Sprawled beneath the blue sky's cover, Lost in drowsy reverie, While guarding mountains 'round it hover, Sleeps the valley languidly. Deaf to the flicker's busy drumming And the Bob-White's clear refrain, Lulled by the rhythmic humming Of a distant aeroplane. Even the breezes speak in whispers, Loath to break the peaceful spell, And all the trees hold silent vespers, Nodding assent, "All is well." Could mortals know here lies the physic They vainly seek and hope to find -- The opiate of sweet contentment For troubled heart and harassed mind! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PENDULUM by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON THE LOVER MOURNS FOR THE LOSS OF LOVE by WILLIAM BUTLER YEATS LEONARDO'S 'MONNA LISA' by EDWARD DOWDEN THE NEW YEAR by ALFRED TENNYSON SEEKING WATERS by DORIS R.
