The brown boats are sailing the wide seas tonight, Looking doon is the moon wi' her deid face sae white, The rim o' the sky is a' reddened wi' tears, And the sea-mews are making a dirge o' their fears. The wind's pipes are skirling "Lochaber no More", Oh! it's wae for the ones that are left on the shore; Their heartslike the sea's heartare loupin' wi' fright, Looking doon is the moon wi' her deid face sae white. Far, far are the bonnie brown boats frae the bay, Cauld guests noo o' darkness and danger are they; The Night Pack is hunting the lads' lives again Frae ruth o' the Sea-Wolf, Dear God, bield oor men. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HALL OF OCEAN LIFE by JOHN HOLLANDER JULY FOURTH BY THE OCEAN by ROBINSON JEFFERS BOATS IN A FOG by ROBINSON JEFFERS CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE FIGUREHEAD by LEONIE ADAMS HOW THE GREAT GUEST CAME by EDWIN MARKHAM |
