I'D RATHER BE YOU, LITTLE WIDE-EYED BOY, by FLORENCE DAVIDSON STROTHER First Line: Yes, little boy, I am old as you say Last Line: And a head full of notions out of a book. Subject(s): Old Age | ||||||||
Yes, little boy, I am old as you say, I've sailed the ocean and ridden a train, And flown over the mountains in a plane. I've studied books and been off to schools, And I've shaken the hand of a king who rules. But, I'd rather be you, little wide-eyed boy, Watching the squirrels in the tree so high, Wondering what makes the bluebirds fly. Than any old man with a wise bold look, And a head full of notions out of a book. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...AT EIGHTY I CHANGE MY VIEW by DAVID IGNATOW FAWN'S FOSTER-MOTHER by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE DEER LAY DOWN THEIR BONES by ROBINSON JEFFERS OLD BLACK MEN by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON A WINTER ODE TO THE OLD MEN OF LUMMUS PARK, / MIAMI, FLORIDA by DONALD JUSTICE AFTER A LINE BY JOHN PEALE BISHOP by DONALD JUSTICE TO HER BODY, AGAINST TIME by ROBERT KELLY SONG FROM A COUNTRY FAIR by LEONIE ADAMS CITY SONNET by FLORENCE DAVIDSON STROTHER |
