THE BAYOU, by EDITH TATUM First Line: All night I hear deep water flowing Last Line: Unbroken, since you went away. Subject(s): Bayous | ||||||||
All night I hear deep water flowing, The bayou as it seeks the sea. I lean from out my window, watching, Dreaming its strange mystery. And ever I hear the muted rippling Of water that never is the same; On, on, it surges, going, going To some far haven without name. My hours and days and years are passing, Like this drift-water and as gray. My life is like the bayou's flowing, Unbroken, since you went away. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...POSTHUMOUS by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON THE GREY ROCK by WILLIAM BUTLER YEATS HOW TO GET ON IN SOCIETY by JOHN BETJEMAN WRITTEN AFTER SWIMMING FROM SESTOS TO ABYDOS by GEORGE GORDON BYRON |
