OUR SOUTH DAKOTA FLOWER, by KATHERINE TAYLOR First Line: Upon unumbered knolls and buttes it gleams Last Line: When comes to us that consummating light. Subject(s): South Dakota | ||||||||
Upon unumbered knolls and buttes it gleams; The sun and sky in rose and blue will bask Above the sod where germinates the Pasque, And weave through it the subtile color schemes Of hyacinthine shades that pale to dreams. The ploughman going to his daily task Will smile in truth and drop his weary mask To drink its fresh perfume, as from clear streams. We see this spring-time chalice of the earth Which speaks of hope and vision at its birth; Has it not overcome the grave and death? And from its courage born of glacial breath We too, shall make a wiser, braver fight When comes to us that consummating light. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...PIONEERS OF SOUTH DAKOTA by CHARLOTTE LOUISE BERTLESEN WHAT OF BEAUTY by OLIVE CHRISTENSEN HOMETOWN by CHARLES BADGER CLARK JR.
