PREMONITION, by MARIE TODD First Line: I'm saving this for john,' he used to say Last Line: As he the thing that he had come to tell. Subject(s): Clothing & Dress; Knowledge | |||
"I'm saving this for John," he used to say, And smooth the furry lining lovingly. He wore it only on a pleasant day; When blizzards lashed, or rain fell, we would see Him buttoned tight in thread-bare, scanty coat, But snug withal, I never had a doubt. Though no sleek collar hugged his wrinkled throat, He glowed to think how it would help John out. The morning John came early to the door, A blizzard whined and scurried from the rim. I saw the coat that never once before Braved weather, till today it bundled him; No need to speak, for I knew just as well As he the thing that he had come to tell. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HOW DO YOU KNOW? by EVE MERRIAM ENLIGHTENMENT by JOSEPHINE MILES PHYSIOLOGUS by JOSEPHINE MILES A COLLEGELANDS CATECHISM by PAUL MULDOON THE BEAR AND THE MAN by ROBERT BLY A PARIS BLACKBIRD by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR THE LIGHT THAT CAME TO LUCILLE CLIFTON by LUCILLE CLIFTON THE CLOUDS OF MAGELLAN (APHORISMS OF MR.
