MYRTLE IN THE MIST, by ROSEMARY TREBON First Line: Below the cliff an overhanging rock Last Line: There's something in every soul that's better unprofess't. Subject(s): Youth | ||||||||
Below the cliff an overhanging rock Tempers with a sunbeam and a star, Above the window there's a noisy clock Responsible not for what we are But for what we later find we should be, What we should have known of death and birth, Not the horror, pain and sorrow we see But the magic cycle . . . earth to earth. If we're blessed by God to live the life of youth, The thrill of great romance beneath a moon star kiss't, Of all this world of knowledge you'd best accept the truth For there's nothing sad as myrtle in the mist. There's something in every life that's always best unsaid, There's something in every heart that should be left at rest; There's something in every mind that is much better dead, There's something in every soul that's better unprofess't. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...BETWEEN THE WARS by ROBERT HASS THE GOLDEN SHOVEL by TERRANCE HAYES ALONG WITH YOUTH by ERNEST HEMINGWAY THE BLACK RIVIERA by MARK JARMAN FLORENCE VANE by PHILIP PENDLETON COOKE BLUEBEARD'S CLOSET by ROSE TERRY COOKE TO THE IMMORTAL MEMORY OF THE HALIBUT ON WHICH I DINED by WILLIAM COWPER |
