OLD HOUSE, by BESS TRUITT First Line: This old house on a busy street Last Line: I've used since love was new. Subject(s): Home | ||||||||
This old house on a busy street Where traffic rushes by, Does not reflect our new-gained wealth Or our standing signify. But it holds the richest memories Of life's challenge bravely met, A steady flame on a sacred hearth With sacrifice beset. It befits our tempo of living, Styled of another year, A shrine to us of Unity, Of Faith and Warmth and Cheer. I'll have no house of spacious rooms Built on the Avenue, But only the accustomed things I've used since Love was new. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...EL FLORIDA ROOM by RICHARD BLANCO DESTINATIONS by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN TO THIS HOUSE by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE UPSTAIRS ROOM by WELDON KEES HOME IS SO SAD by PHILIP LARKIN DUTCH INTERIOR by DAVID LEHMAN CHEROKEE STRIP (THE RUN OF '93) by BESS TRUITT |
