SALT WATER'S LURE, by VIRGINIA WAINWRIGHT First Line: I always lived beside the wave and spray Last Line: With boats and fog. Would life were otherwise. Subject(s): Hearts; Sea; Trees; Ocean | ||||||||
I always lived beside the wave and spray, The wheeling gulls and far flung sandy beach, I always looked upon a vast expanse And saw the ocean far as eye can reach. But now that I am hemmed by poplar trees, Far inland where no savage storms arise, I know my heart is with the salty breeze, With boats and fog. Would life were otherwise. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HALL OF OCEAN LIFE by JOHN HOLLANDER JULY FOURTH BY THE OCEAN by ROBINSON JEFFERS BOATS IN A FOG by ROBINSON JEFFERS CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE FIGUREHEAD by LEONIE ADAMS |
