A place to read more books and quietly sew Gay colored rugs, or mend the children's socks; Attractive rooms to clean, and grass to mow, Low plants to set amid a bed of rocks; A hearth to sweep, a kindling box to fill; A bathroom to scour clean, and beds to make; A kitchen to develop cooking skill: Cream puffs, mince pie, and home-made bread to bake, A place to train young lives in wholesome ways; To welcome students home for their recess; Where friends collect throughout the holidays, And hobbies make for leisure happiness. "She loves her home," they say, -- and ah, why not? To her it is on earth a heavenly spot. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...EL FLORIDA ROOM by RICHARD BLANCO DESTINATIONS by JOSEPHINE JACOBSEN TO THIS HOUSE by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE UPSTAIRS ROOM by WELDON KEES HOME IS SO SAD by PHILIP LARKIN DUTCH INTERIOR by DAVID LEHMAN |
