Alternate Author Name(s): Gill, Roderick; Strange, Garrett
Subject(s): Singing & Singers; Time

Soprano:
UPON the rack of love despised I lay
And one at midnight came to hush my groan
With—"Patience, brother, for at break of day
Thou shalt forget"—that word wrenched bone from bone.

Contralto:
I live,—O God, my heart is beating still!—
Yea, this that walks and eats and sleeps, is I!
What of the light that fled these ashes chill—
My soul of dreams—? I live to see it die.

Basso:
To-night I weary of my book of doubt,
Its rhymes and sciences of sneer and slime;
I throw my casement wide where clear shine out
God's seals still molten on the scrolls of Time.
