DEEP RIVERS, by AILEEN WARD First Line: Deep rivers fascinate and hold my heart Last Line: Seek only peace: a priceless benison. . . . Subject(s): Rivers | ||||||||
Deep rivers fascinate and hold my heart; Deep rivers waken pity, joy, and tears; I see them flowing on, aloof, apart, Majestically, adown the endless years. Yet I have heard them moaning in the night; And I have heard the wind, with patient tone Striving to ease the pain, and put to flight An aching deeper than my heart has known. Deep rivers are a calm affinity; They know desires that only brave hearts know; Proud mountains musing through eternity Are not more constant than the river's flow. Deep flowing rivers, when the day is done Seek only peace: a priceless benison. . . . | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...RIVERS INTO SEAS by LYNDA HULL TO A WOMAN GLANCING UP FROM THE RIVER by LARRY LEVIS TWO-RIVER LEDGER by KHALED MATTAWA HE FINDS THE MANSION by JAMES MCMICHAEL THE RIVERS by CLARIBEL ALEGRIA VERMILION FLYCATCHER, SAN PEDRO RIVER, ARIZONA by MARGARET ATWOOD THE PORCH OVER THE RIVER by WENDELL BERRY THE RIVER BRIDGED AND FORGOT by WENDELL BERRY SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY: HENRY PHIPPS by EDGAR LEE MASTERS |
