THORNY ISLAND, by MARGUERITE WARNER First Line: Take me back to thorny Last Line: I would set my sail tonight. Subject(s): Homesickness; Islands | ||||||||
Take me back to Thorny, Where the sea tangs reach the sky, Off the coast of England, Where the gulls and plovers fly. The reeds grow tall in Thorny Above the golden sand; The water laps its border, All lush the pasture land. The houses cluster idly About a shady green; The church, built by the Normans, Stands Gothic and serene. Give me a ship for Thorny Just off the Isle of Wight; My heart cries out for Thorny; I would set my sail tonight. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...DECEPTION PASS; FOR JUDY AND MARK KAWASAKI by KAREN SWENSON ON THIS ISLAND by WYSTAN HUGH AUDEN GLADYS AND HER ISLAND; AN IMPERFECT TALE WITH DOUBTFUL MORAL by JEAN INGELOW RAGGED ISLAND by EDNA ST.
