SILVER SEALS, by FLORENCE WENNER First Line: My restless thoughts take leave of me Last Line: Ride on the unknown breakers, ride! Subject(s): Seals (animals) | ||||||||
My restless thoughts take leave of me As seals would slip into the sea To move through waters lashing high. Beyond, grim foes that know no sleep Wait for them in the mighty deep As shadows of great whales go by. Yet fear or danger cannot hold The shining forms that thread the cold, Far stretches of the mother ocean: Though foes assail they cannot kill These quivering shapes Eternal Will Sends luminously into motion. Blue, green or grey the waters flow, And through their foaming torrents go Sleek bodies of my silver seals: As streaks of light they nose the wave, Swift swimmers, confident and brave, Where ice breaks under iron keels. Go, silver seals, straight through the crest Of full swells on the ocean's breast To cleave far rims of thundering tide! And when the distant spray leaps bright, Swim, silver seals, swim out of sight; Ride on the unknown breakers, ride! | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...SEAL LULLABY by RUDYARD KIPLING SEALS AT HIGH ISLAND by RICHARD MURPHY THE ISLAND by AUDREY ALEXANDRA BROWN THE SONG OF THE MERMAIDS by GEORGE DARLEY THE DANCING SEAL by WILFRID WILSON GIBSON LITTLE SEAL-SKIN by ELIZA KEARY ELEPHANT SEALS, ANO NUEVO by KIM THERESA ADDONIZIO THE GRAPES OF MALAGA by FLORENCE WENNER |
