THE SEA, by MARGUERITE E. WETZEL First Line: If I could paint the colors of the sea Last Line: The wondrous, boundless, open sea. Subject(s): Art & Artists; Sea; Ocean | ||||||||
If I could paint the colors of the sea, In all its opalescent shades; And catch the gleam before it fades, A painter I should like to be. If I could sing the song of the sea, In all of its varying moods; Whether it rejoices or broods, A singer I should like to be. If I could grasp the meaning of the sea, As it tosses and rolls and fumes; As it dances and frets and croons, A poet I should like to be. But I cannot catch its mystery. Nor why it forever goes; Changing, rushing as on it flows; The wondrous, boundless, open sea. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...HALL OF OCEAN LIFE by JOHN HOLLANDER JULY FOURTH BY THE OCEAN by ROBINSON JEFFERS BOATS IN A FOG by ROBINSON JEFFERS CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS THE FIGUREHEAD by LEONIE ADAMS WELT by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON A SONG OF COURAGE by GEORGIA DOUGLAS JOHNSON FONTENOY, 1745: 1.
