COLOR IN NOVEMBER, by LARAH F. WHEATON First Line: The leafless trees their bony structure show Last Line: King's glory in his ornaments. Subject(s): November | ||||||||
The leafless trees their bony structure show And pencil a gaunt loveliness below The hill. Only one in palest amber Keeps a delicate reminder Of leaves that were; while on the hawthorn near Red berries glow like rubies. Their jewels clear Might have a name as precious, dear, As Badakhshan or Burma if they would! In late November's trembling wood, When colors are so rare and Autumn's hood Has lost its green, a solitary jay Upon a tree may seem a sapphire gay, And these few amber leaves and berries red, As precious as things upon a mummy's head, Carefully unwrapped by those who see the dead King's glory in his ornaments. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A DANGEROUS TIME by LINDA PASTAN XMAS COMING by KENNETH REXROTH LUNAR PARAPHRASE by WALLACE STEVENS THE REGION NOVEMBER by WALLACE STEVENS NORTH WINTER by HAYDEN CARRUTH THE BOROUGH: LETTER 22.
