GOD OF THE OPEN, by MARGUERITE AVIS WHITCOMB First Line: Through the broad gray sweep of ocean Last Line: Flag of faith, one god, one lord. Subject(s): God; Nature | ||||||||
Through the broad gray sweep of ocean, Over prairies, wind-swept plains, Through the mountain mists and snowstorms; God of avalanche and rains. Through the fields now white for harvest, Laden boughs, the orchards yield, Orange groves and vineyards bearing; God of nature, sky and field. Through the land-locked lakes a pathway, Mountain stream, Niagara's fall -- Through the pine, the spruce and hemlock; God of our far country's call. Through the cities westward rising, North and south, by man adored -- Through the reach of our possessions; Flag of faith, one God, one Lord. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...INTERRUPTED MEDITATION by ROBERT HASS TWO VIEWS OF BUSON by ROBERT HASS THE FATALIST: HOME by LYN HEJINIAN WRITING IS AN AID TO MEMORY: 17 by LYN HEJINIAN LET US GATHER IN A FLOURISHING WAY by JUAN FELIPE HERRERA IN MICHAEL ROBINS?ÇÖS CLASS MINUS ONE by HICOK.
