OLD MILL, by EDNA SCRUGGS WILLIAMSON First Line: There's a lovely place where the old mill-stream Last Line: To find my soul again. Subject(s): Mills And Millers | |||
There's a lovely place where the old mill-stream Glides over its stony bed, Singing a song of freedom and joy; Its old-time task is sped. The mill is silent, the wheel is still, But Nature is busy there; Creepers cover the scars of time With blossoms rich and rare. The sinking roof is draped with moss, The winds whisk the clapboards away, But memories troop through the open door, Ghosts of a prosperous day. There the song-sparrow calls to its mate In her nest beneath the eaves; The mockingbird trills his sweetest notes As he flits among the leaves. I steal away from the busy town, From the bustle and noise of men, And seek this haven of peace and rest To find my soul again. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MY FATHER'S GARDEN by DAVID WAGONER HANCHEN, THE MAID OF THE MILL by WILLIAM MCGONAGALL LUBBER BREEZE by THOMAS STURGE MOORE THE WOOD MILL by LUTHER LAURENCE DOWRICK PRATT STEEL MILL MEN by JULIAN LEE RAYFORD KINGRY'S MILL by JAMES WHITCOMB RILEY THE JOLLY MILLER by JAMES WHITCOMB RILEY THE OLD HOME BY THE MILL by JAMES WHITCOMB RILEY LAMENT OF GRANITE by DAVID ROSS THE RARE BOOK by EDNA SCRUGGS WILLIAMSON |
