TIME, by MARY SCOTT WILLOUR First Line: Dear one, it seems a year since yesterday Last Line: I spend the years between just marking time. Subject(s): Time | ||||||||
Dear one, it seems a year since yesterday. Each leaden hour weighs upon my heart. Each dream I dream, each empty word I say Stands off and mocks me when we are apart. But, when I am with you, then time takes wings, Each simple dream becomes a breathing jewel, Each word takes on the majesty of kings; And life burns bright with ecstasy for fuel. I but exist the day I do not see Your face before me, dear, and do not hear Your strange and haunting voice compelling me; My life becomes a shell without you near. Seconds with you are centuries sublime; I spend the years between just marking time. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...ELEVEN EYES: FINAL SECTION by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: COME OCTOBER by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: HOME by LYN HEJINIAN THE FATALIST: TIME IS FILLED by LYN HEJINIAN SLOWLY: I FREQUENTLY SLOWLY WISH by LYN HEJINIAN ALL THE DIFFICULT HOURS AND MINUTES by JANE HIRSHFIELD A DAY IS VAST by JANE HIRSHFIELD FROM THIS HEIGHT by TONY HOAGLAND |
