IN MEMORY OF MY MOTHER, by ELMER A. C. WOLFE First Line: Many a year has come and passed Last Line: She'll welcome me in the heavenly cloud. Subject(s): Memory; Mothers | ||||||||
Many a year has come and passed, Trouble and sorrow have I known Since the day my mother breathed her last, And her soul to the great beyond hath flown! Little did I realize Why fond farewells brought forth the tears; And old-time friends with whispering cries Spoke tenderly of my future years. Many a time I've longed to turn To a knowing mother for a helping hand; But on my soul must my troubles burn For only a mother my sins could understand. When somebody's mother is abused, It cuts my heart like a hunting knife; Worldly good can never be confused, With a mother's love, the dearest thing in life. Now let my prayers forever be That all my deeds might make her proud; So when the angel of death is calling me, She'll welcome me in the heavenly cloud. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...MY MOTHER'S HANDS by ANDREW HUDGINS CONTINENT'S END by ROBINSON JEFFERS IN THE 25TH YEAR OF MY MOTHER'S DEATH by JUDY JORDAN THE PAIDLIN' WEAN by ALEXANDER ANDERSON BLASTING FROM HEAVEN by PHILIP LEVINE DINNER IN A QUICK LUNCH ROOM by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET |
