IN ONE OF ITALY'S CATHEDRALS, by
First Line: In one of italy's cathedrals, vast-domed
Last Line: Seems beating out a prayer.
Subject(s): Churches; Humanity; Prayer; Religion; Cathedrals; Theology

In one of Italy's cathedrals, vast-domed,
Upheld by mammoth pillars, delicately carved,
Where the warm light from rich stained glass windows
Streams in through the half-gloom,
I see a prostrate figure kneeling,
A laboring man, in whose rapt and upturned face
The heart of all humanity
Seems beating out a prayer.
