I SHALL STOP DREAMING, by CONSTANCE ENTWHISTLE HOAR First Line: I shall stop dreaming of the far-off places Last Line: And childhood glorifies the meanest street. | |||
I shall stop dreaming of the far-off places Where strange old cities cast a glamorous spell, Where mysteries entice and time effaces Their dim beginnings. I shall seek to quell The lure that beckons toward some hidden treasure Along barbaric coasts, to probe the wild Impenetrable jungle; there is pleasure In simple paths of life if reconciled. Better than dreaming, is the mind's unveiling To humble beauty in a bent old man; This little shop behind the basement paling Holds romance in a broken ivory fan. Enchanted is the bench where lovers meet, And childhood glorifies the meanest street. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THE OLD HITCHING POST by CONSTANCE ENTWHISTLE HOAR THERE IS NO DEATH by CONSTANCE ENTWHISTLE HOAR A MID-DAY DREAMER by JAMES WELDON JOHNSON FOUR THINGS [TO DO] by HENRY VAN DYKE FRANCE; THE 18TH YEAR OF THESE STATES by WALT WHITMAN THE SURF by JURGIS BALTRUSHAITIS SONG by FRANCOIS JOACHIM DE PIERRE DE BERNIS BABEL: THE GATE OF GOD by GORDON BOTTOMLEY |
