ETERNAL DREAM, by MORRIS HURLEY First Line: Intelligence in man conceived Last Line: In sleep for all eternity. Subject(s): Reason; Intellect; Rationalism; Brain; Mind; Intellectuals | |||
Intelligence in man conceived With its first dawn a mighty dream, In every age and land believed And still today our guiding beam, A cherished hope within each breast To have that ego which we are, Along with joys we mark as blest, And to reject the wound or scar. Intelligence, that is the link Of human and divinity; The power to love, to feel, and think Is truly that identity; Since man discovered thus the way And held the vision as his light, The Great Omnipotence will say That realization is his right. Should reason hold no place nor kin To heavenly plan or master scheme, If life, with churlish prank and grin, May taunt us with deceiving dream, Rejoice in that we ne'er can know Its galling pang of cruelty; Oblivion sweet will shield that blow In sleep for all eternity. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...AGAINST EXCESS OF SEA OR SUN OR REASON by WILLIAM MEREDITH PROVISION FOR THE HIGHER OZONE BODY by WILL ALEXANDER THE BOOK OF THE DEAD MAN (#65) by MARVIN BELL THE MACHINATIONS OF THE MIND by LAURE-ANNE BOSSELAAR WHY FOOL AROUND? by STEPHEN DOBYNS |
