HORIZONS, by CHRISTIE JEFFRIES First Line: Where canyon walls of cities rise Last Line: Immeasurable and limitless. Subject(s): Cities; Walls; Urban Life | ||||||||
Where canyon walls of cities rise To lupin skies, And concrete rivers flow beyond The glance into an asphalt pond, I see a granite beauty limned In heavy lines, exact, undimmed. And that is all; I cannot see Horizons of infinity. But when I pass a corner lush With underbrush, See the wild creeper's curving stroke Penciled on the rutted oak, Behold the emerald opulence Of leaf and grass, omnipotence And majesty around me press, Immeasurable and limitless. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...THINGS (FOR AN INDIAN) TO DO IN NEW YORK (CITY) by SHERMAN ALEXIE THE CITY REVISITED by STEPHEN VINCENT BENET TEN OXHERDING PICTURES: ENTERING THE CITY WITH BLISS-BESTOWING HANDS by LUCILLE CLIFTON THE CITY OF THE OLESHA FRUIT by NORMAN DUBIE DISCOVERING THE PHOTOGRAPH OF LLOYD, EARL, AND PRISCILLA by LYNN EMANUEL MY DIAMOND STUD by ALICE FULTON MOUNTAIN MEADOW by CHRISTIE JEFFRIES |
