The bells rang for a king inevitably winning the girl whose enchanted hand spun straw to gold ... virgins with the marvellous hearts spinning bright thread from the piled moments, resist the cold glittering miracle, unlearn that art; old tales are old. The years yield darkness, of stuffs and textures untried, alien to light fingers. The years are sorrow. There must be starless cloth for garments tomorrow; under black roofs lonely spinners. No gold. No bride. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...A BLESSING FOR A WEDDING by JANE HIRSHFIELD A SUITE FOR MARRIAGE by DAVID IGNATOW ADVICE TO HER SON ON MARRIAGE by MARY BARBER THE RABBI'S SON-IN-LAW by SABINE BARING-GOULD KISSING AGAIN by DORIANNE LAUX A TIME PAST by DENISE LEVERTOV AGAINST THE MISER MIND by ALICE MONKS MEARS |
