THE SONNET LIVES, by DUKE COLE MEREDITH First Line: It lives - the magic lamp some genius wrought Last Line: To find one molded with less artifice. Subject(s): Sonnet (as Literary Form) | |||
It lives -- the magic lamp some genius wrought In ages past to be the perfect mold. Its body bears the test of purest gold. More precious metals are forever sought. Its base is two small reservoirs, one brought To rest against the other, -- built to hold Four each, the magic wicks, the whole to fold On unions on each base, securely caught. No other than the finest oil can bring The light reflecting credit justly due A vessel quite so excellent as this. The oil must be distilled, else failure's sting Will turn the user toward some avenue To find one molded with less artifice. | Discover our Poem Explanations and Poet Analyses!Other Poems of Interest...WAS THAT REALLY A SONNET? by ANSELM HOLLO RETICENT SONNET by ANNE CARSON SONNET: OF THREE GIRLS AND OF THEIR TALK by GIOVANNI BOCCACCIO WHAT THE SONNET IS by EUGENE JACOB LEE-HAMILTON ON A MAGAZINE SONNET by RUSSELL HILLARD LOINES THE HOUSE OF LIFE: THE SONNET (INTRODUCTION) by DANTE GABRIEL ROSSETTI FORSAKEN SOLITUDES by DUKE COLE MEREDITH |
